cups for G and chooks for me

Workin on some chooks today.
These ones are made with a metal stick spot.
I'll clean em up today and paint the during the week.
Some good old black and white, but for some reason I'm thinkin fishing chooks.
We'll have to see how they pan out. I'll share of course, if I think they look cute.
so stay tuned for the finished product......

G's doin cups and mugs for a special project comin up later in the year.
He's trying out different shapes and sizes at the mo. (and handles too)
These are stoneware, but he'll be doin some mid fire ones too.
He can pain them up and have a bit of fun with colours.

keepin it all dry

It can be difficult to keep the made work dry when the rain comes in sideways. One hazard of an open air style studio. Wouldn't have walls though, the garden is too nice.

These are the corro leaves I cut up on Sat and Sunday. loads of sizes and shapes.

Todays project

matching each leaf for shape and sizes

 my metal cutting work area

It's not all pretty, makin these flowers. Its a long process with many different parts to their making. Today part is to cut out some leaves from corrugated iron.  My preferred Corro is hard to source here in the Darwin. No one wants to keep the old, beautifully rusted iron sheets. The threat of a cyclone has everyone cleaning up their yards.
I do like to reuse and recycle, so will never get new stuff. I visit the Shoal Bay waste recycle (dump) shop often. I love that you  never know what beaut items can be found on any given day. G says I need to put it out into the cosmos exactly what I want, and you know, when I do, I usually find, right out in the open exactly what I want. Today, I was lucky enough to find the rusty corro,  in just my size! Some of the sheets are metres long. Way to hard to handle, or fit in the car for that matter.
G researched, and got me a nibbler to cut metal. My hands are little, so I needed a tool I can hold easily. Lots of tools are made for men, and they usually have huge hands. We decided to use the area behind out little shed as the tiny nibbled off bits of metal can be quite the little hazard. Tiny and sharp and they love feet. ouch! Here they fall between the little bits of the road base pieces, rust,  and are never seen again.
So I cut out the leaves, (today) wash the metal, grind the edges so they aren't sharp (tomorrow), punch a hole to screw into the flower stem. (some other weekend)
Process Done (maybe in a few weeks)

busy day in the studio

from this

to this

and into the kiln

kiln stacked and ready to fire

It's been a busy day here in the Darwin. G and I have both painted greenware pots to get enough to fill the whole kiln. Music blaring, heads down, colours flying. G got himself some new brushes, where as I cleaned some old ones in my lovely shampoo and they came up a treat.
G's penguin is hiding among the flowers. Red eyed and shiny coated with lovely Bob Hawk eyebrows. Fingers crossed that he comes out nice. G has burnished him to within an inch of his life. (G's or the penguins life, I'm not sure)
